The Water Management Knowledge and Innovation Programme (WMKIP) is a 3-year program supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (EKN). It builds upon the long-standing cooperation between Bangladesh and the Netherlands in the water sector.
The objective of WMKIP is effective contribution to the long-term development goals for the Southern Coastal Region of Bangladesh and objectives of the Blue Gold program through tested and sustainable water management innovations, knowledge development and participatory action research.
Objective: To contribute effectively to the Medium and Long Term Development Goals for the Southern Coastal Region, through tested and sustainable water management innovations, knowledge development and participatory action research.
WMKIP principles to achieve its goal are:
The program is structured into four components: Innovation Development, Horizontal Learning and Outreach, Knowledge Agenda on Water Management and Program Management
WMKIP Innovations:
WMKIP is composed of four innovation and a cross-cutting themes that focus on the key
challenges and opportunities in the Southern coastal areas. Four Fast Track projects will be
implemented under the Innovation Themes. These were selected based on their clear contribution to the themes, prospect of upscaling before the end of the program, impact
on water management indicators, contribution to Netherlands – Bangladesh partnership
development and to community water management, and the inclusion of disadvantaged groups.
